About this blog & me

Hi there!

I'm a Spanish professor at a small university and I am not an expert about health or happiness, but I'm trying to live healthier and happier myself and thought that I could keep track of my learning through this blog. If, on top of that, someone else finds it useful, so much the better.

I do make my students blog (in Spanish!), so I'm familiar with this medium and believe it can serve many purposes, not just as a journal for my interests but also to learn from others who may want to contribute with their comments and insights. Maybe I'll get a true expert on health and happiness to even help me!

I have had some issues with my health, so many of the tips here come from my research dealing with that. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Stage I, treated with lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. Had a recurrence at the end of 2010, but this time accompanied with metastases to bones. I prefer not to dwell too much about my own cancer story here, but shoot me an e-mail if you would like to know anything else.

Because I believe in laughter and lightness and don't want this blog to be too serious, as a way to introduce myself I'm posting this video clip of my children making fun of me. This was the year 2008 and I wanted to "model" a video for my students, as they had to create their own. I asked my children (8 and 11 at the time) to nicely answer my questions (in Spanish), so my students would have an idea of how they should make their own videos. Well, this was the result. Enjoy!
